Birdcage | Pet Friendly

Birdcage is a 2 bedroom 2 bath gulf-front unique beach house with a wrap-around deck located approximately 6.6 miles west of highway 59 in Gulf Shores. The yellow octagon-shaped house is a repeat destination for many guests year after year. The master bedroom has a king bed with an en suite bathroom with a standalone shower. The 2nd bedroom has two queen beds with an en suite bathroom with tub/shower combo. The house has a fully equipped kitchen with a washer and dryer. King, Queen, Queen, Sofa sleeper, Sofa sleeper. Sleeps up to 10 people.

Birdcage is pet friendly. A $150.00 non-refundable pet fee is required on all pet-friendly reservations.

  Okay this home was not perfect by any means but those imperfections just gave her character. I am able to look over most flaws when I can bring my dogs. The house was clean but a hurricane had just come through 2 days prior so the outside was a little neat up. Again I can bring my dogs so I could care less. I highly recommend this home to dog lovers.

  I agree with past reviews that the Birdcage needs some TLC, but we were there to relax and enjoy the beach - which we did. It is located in a beautiful area. It was quiet and just sitting watching all that goes on in the water was fabulous. We seen rays, dolphins, loads of crabs and beautiful sharks cruising by. Loved it all!

  This was the perfect beach trip for a family of 5, it was pet friendly which was a must for us. The beach being a few feet away was the bwat thing ever, the kids would just build sand castles all day and it was not crowded at all... we will be returning for sure.

  William was a lifesaver at Gulf Shores Rentals! I had booked another property thru VRBO at Dauphin Island, Alabama and we were within an hour of arriving there, I received a call and was told there was an issue with the plumbing and there would be no water for 2 days. In a panic I started searching for house rentals in Gulf Shores that would accommodate 2 dogs along with 3 adults and 1 child and we needed it starting that night and the next 7 nights. I called the Gulf Shores Rental company and spoke with William and told him my situation and he said he did have availability at the house that was called “Birdcage.” He took all my information over the phone and within 30 minutes we were on our way to our new destination. We arrived to find a wonderful place that was right on the beach and had everything we needed to make it a memorable vacation. To William and the Gulf Shores Rentals team, thank you all for everything.

Yes, the property is older and there are some things that could use some attention, but for the cost and where it's located, it's hard to beat. That stretch of West Beach Blvd is really peaceful and you have a ton of the beach to yourself just a few steps away.

  This house was in a great location but needs major repair to the front railing (totally disconnected from stairs), ant infestation, and the back siding of the house has large chunks missing/rotted away. Also missing basic things like coffee filters, salt, pepper, etc. It was fine, just felt uneasy with my toddler and the overall condition of the house. Would recommend for people without children.

  We had a great time at the beach ! The house was in the perfect location and just steps from the beach. I will say the house itself is in much need of some TLC but that was no surprise from other reviews. Gulf shores and orange beach are our favorite places to visit and the food there is never disappointing ! Late Oct and early November is the most relaxing and there are no crowds.

  The beach was perfect! Barely any people on the beach in September. Nice and quiet. The house was not in good shape and needs a lot of things repaired. There were ants on the counter the day of check in and we could not keep anything on the counter all week.   My family and I have never rented a house for our vacation before - we have always stayed in condos. We absolutely loved the privacy of having our own place. The location of the house was absolutely wonderful. It gave us privacy for our living space and more importantly a less crowded beach. We LOVED that part of the house.
  
  The house itself definitely needs some updates. I read all of that before our stay so I wasn't surprised. It's such a charming space with a big living area and large bedrooms. It was quite nice to have all of this space to ourselves.
  
  I look forward to renting this house again - hopefully with a few much needed updates.

  The Birdcage is an adorable house with an amazing location. The inside of the house was a bit dated but clean. Could use a good refinish on the floors. The back deck and stairs were in decent shape. The front stairs and some spots of the exterior of the house were in need of repair.
  
  Only a few things to complain about. For one where are (what I can only guess at) covered floor vents around the house, and one in particular right on the kitchen that was a little caved in.. Always had to be careful not to step on it. just weird. Also, the oven did not work so I ended up buying a toaster oven (needed one for home anyway). The biggest issue we had was a fishy smell from the refrigerator. We can only assume the previous renters were fishers and kept their catch in the fridge. The GS Rentals were great and came out to reclean the fridge and gave us some baking soda boxes, but the smell persisted for our entire stay. In turn the ice from the ice maker also had this fishy smell so we had to buy ice for drinks as well as coolers.
  
  Overall we loved our stay at the Birdcage and WILL BE BACK. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION...

  None of the sliding doors were lockable there was a flexible small rod to secure doors that was cheap and could be easily broken. The kitchen cabinets were covered with yellow smoke residue. Outlet in master bedroom did not work because I tried 2 different lamps. House is rotting away on the beach side and the kitchen door did not lock we put chair in front of it.

  We absolutely loved our stay at the birdcage. I’m very partial to the smaller house rentals available because we like to actually get away on our trips and not take everyone we know with us, just so we can afford the place, LOL. That being the case, the size of the place was perfect for us (2 adults, 1 child) as well as the location. You’re right on the beach and that stretch of the Blvd is very quiet and not a ton of people or traffic. Makes relaxing very easy. The place is older and as such can be a little rough around the edges, but I really enjoy the uniqueness and personality of the older houses. Based on some of the other reviews and management responses, it seems some items have been updated this year, so everything was in good working order for us. The beds and the furniture were comfortable, and the AC was good and cold. We did have a couple of minor things we had to contact maintenance about, but they were out that day and took care of it. I will say the grill is not in the best of shape, which wasn’t an issue for us, but could be if anyone had plans to grill. Overall though, very satisfied and plan to return.

  The location and view was very nice. Beds were ok. Showers were ok with good pressure. They had painted the rooms nice. The building needs lots of work. Doors didn’t work. Stove had burners that didn’t work. Holes and rotting in floors. The walls out side and around sliders were rotting. The sliding doors and window had their sills broken ,allowing steam and water inside. The steps were dangerous, rotted and weathered . They had nails sticking out and rails broken that could cause a bad fall. They had repaired part of the back deck ,so you could relax there. The furniture in the living was not useable. We had to sit inside and out on deck chairs. I hope someone fixes this place up before it rots down. It was a lot of money, for a the view . It was not a comfortable vacation.

Since this review, the living room furniture has been replaced, new ceiling fans replaced throughout, the stove and burners have been checked and are in working order, and security bars have been installed for the sliding doors.   Although this was not our first stay in Gulf Shores, this was the first time at the Birdcage. The home needs some repair done on the outside and the living room furniture could have been better. The beds were very comfortable, all appliances were in working order, the home was very clean. After all, this is a vacation home and maybe not what you would have in your own home. The property's location could not have been any better what with the gulf right outside the doors. The property management was extremely helpful when we needed to contact them and sent an employee immediately to see to the issue. All in all, we would, and do plan to stay again at the Birdcage--can't wait to return to the beautiful sunny climate and beautiful beach.

  We were a little nervous of renting this property based on past reviews but wanted something quiet and on the water. The Birdcage did not disappoint in that regard. The property was clean but dilapidated. Most of the ceiling fans did not work, the couches were horrible and we ended up using out beach chairs inside to have a semi-comfortable place to sit. Mattresses were adequate. Could not open any of the sliding doors except the main one in the back of the house. We only tried cooking once but eh stove was finicky and the burners would not stay on all the time. At the end of the week 3 of the 4 people staying said they would not rent again. Please spend some money on this unique property!

  Location and privacy was great!! House was very very spacious and layed out well! Beds we're very comfortable! Water pressure was great in showers. Key pick up was very easy to get and check out was great just called to let them know we were leaving. The house needs a lot of TLC, it's run down. The couches were uncomfortable and each couch on one cushion had duct tape over a big hole, also floor between bedrooms had a small piece of wood missing. And steps at entrance as well as half of outside deck needs replacing almost felt unsafe. Plug sockets in king master bedroom only one plug socket worked in each outlet. Maintenance man came in unannounced to replace air conditioner filter, wish they would of called first for safety reasons!

  Even though it rained on the first 2 days of our stay, we enjoyed the Birdcage. Very unique and artsy. The location was far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to enjoy the delicious meals at local restaurants. The view from the deck was breathtaking!

  My husband and I have been so stressed for a couple of years, and have not had a vacation since 2016. We so very much enjoyed our stay here, and it wouldn’t have been the same without our baby (Kadi the beagle). Once I realized we were staying on our almost secluded private beach, I became really relaxed. We enjoy privacy and quiet. This totally delivered. Jeff has a hard time sleeping, but slept so good, I had to check on him. Couches were not comfortable, but no worries. I would love to come here yearly.

  Love the location of this house as well as the area overall. The house itself does need quite a few improvements, but at this price point you can't really beat the value for the price. If you plan to cook a lot, I recommend bringing your own kitchen items. It was very clean. I have never had a bad customer service experience with this company. I would absolutely recommend this property to smaller families. I don't suggest relying on the pull out couches to sleep on because they are not very comfortable, but all the beds were fine.

  The view is great the beach is beautiful. We have visited this property 4 times because it is right on the beach, however the house is in desperate need of TLC and repair, not to mention updates. Overall the furniture was pitiful, mattress stained, the ceiling fans covered in dust and flimsy. The sofa and the dining area should have been replaced after our first stay.
  It is pet friendly but not all pet people are careful and clean. We brought our own sheets bedding and towels. The coffee pot totally rusted and the same one thats been there for year. We brought our own coffee pot. Rusted flashing falling off the house. The grill they provide I would never use. We brought our own. Clearly this property is in need of inspection and repair. I have photos to show . The Beach however is beautiful as it is along the gulf anywhere. Sad to say that we won't be back.

  It was quite the experience staying at The Birdcage! The house was clean. The bed was comfortable. All the appliances worked well (that I used). The view was outstanding. Access to the beach was short and handy. For our short 3 night stay, it worked for us. But...the amount of repairs needed on this ol girl is extensive, The deck needs completion of the repairs started, the central board in the center of the hexagon needs replacing. New drapes. New artwork. New paint. New furniture. The price was right, so I guess you get what you pay for.

  This is our second year staying at the bird cage! The location could not have been any better, beach front and very quiet area. Thereus lots of room for the grands to run and play. The house needs a lot of TLC, the back part of the deck has been rebuilt, there still is rotting wood around back windows and doors, but the front portion has loose and uneven boards. This sweet place has so much potential if it was painted, repaired and furnishings were updated. The beds are comfy and the house was clean. Bring kitchen basics, potholders, etc. There is only one rack in oven so cooking a large meal was challenging. That being said the living and dining areas are large and we had lots of space for 5 adults and 3 kiddos.   The Bird Cage was just perfect! It’s a very uniquely shaped house with sliding glass doors in both bedrooms and three sets of sliding glass doors on the side of the house that faces the water. There is ample room for 10 people, even though we chose not to use the couches. We used four queen sized air mattresses in the living room and dining area and there was still plenty of room to walk in both of those areas. There is a wrap around balcony that provides a view of the water from all angles (the lagoon is across the road so you will always see water!). The house sits very close to the water, which was nice since we took a canopy, umbrella, and chairs down each day. All of our beach items were easily stored beneath the house.
  It was such a nice vacation and in the absolute perfect location (this is not a public beach so there are not many people around at the beach). We can not wait to return next year!

  We had a great time here but it’s pretty beat up. The place could certainly use some updates and TLC. Everything worked, the beds were comfy and the sheets were clean. The couches were super uncomfortable but we don’t go to the beach to hang out on the couch. The stairs and decking were really pretty rough although parts have been recently replaced. All that said we had the BEST week! The location was perfect! Not too far from restaurants and we had SO much beach to ourselves. We’re so used to staying in condos where the beaches are crowded. We will take this beach experience over an updated condo any day!

  The house was warn, and was in need of repairs/updates. However, it was very clean and had everything we needed! It's a spacious home, that had plenty of room for my family of 4 and dog. Each wall of the house has a sliding glass door that looks out to water, either the bay side or the gulf side. Plus...you are right on the beach and can listen to the waves crashing all day/night! This house is also almost at the dead end of the street, so not a lot of traffic either, but it was also off season. We really enjoyed our stay!!

  There are some much needed repairs at this house. We stayed here the first time in 2006. The furniture & decorations are the same & aren’t in the best shape. However, we fell in love with it because it’s a cute house in a perfect location. This was our third stay at the Birdcage. The area was quiet & not a lot of traffic. (It is off season though) Gulf Shores Rentals went above & beyond for us. From changing our reservations due to some Hurricane Sally damage to repairing the heat on Christmas Eve! The heat wasn’t working & they sent someone out within an hour to look at it! When he couldn’t fix it, he called a repair man & he came out at 8pm on Christmas Eve! It was unusually cold this year & they made sure we were comfortable & not freezing on Christmas! Can’t say enough good things about them! Have used them several times in the past, with no issues, but they really showed us their customer service this visit! Will definitely use them again & would stay at the Birdcage again even with it needing repairs!

  The house is a little weather worn but is spacious and extremely guest friendly. The layout is perfect and the rooms and bathrooms are wonderful. The kitchen and laundry are great, all the ceiling fans keep the rooms cool all the time. The deck goes all the way around the house for gulf and bay views. The beach is right outside the back and has the most perfect view day and night. The location is this homes best feature - it is a little way down the beach from the majority of condo's and multi family houses. The beach is not crowded and it is quiet except for the waves. I'll be booking this house every year!

  Furniture in living and dining area needs updating. Couches were very uncomfortable and dining chairs need to be recovered. Kitchen cooking items needed updating. Plywood pieces put in sliding glass doors for locking purposes?? Decking needs replacing. Deck looks nothing like photo. Needs new table and seating on deck. Bedrooms were ok.. matttesses were good. Overall was ok .. can tell it has not been kept up.. was old.

  We chose the Birdcage because of the location! It is very private and we were able to have plenty of room in the beach to socially distance! My hubby and son had lots of room to fish! The house is a very roomy 2 bedroom and there was plenty of room for 6 adults and 3 small children! The house is in great need of some TLC! There is rotting wood around doors and windows and lots of old pieces of wood below with rusty nails! As other guests have mentioned the deck and rails are needing to be sealed! Lots of splinters! This house has great potential and is one we would love to rent again! The furniture is comfy, a few tears in sofa but the beds were very comfy and lots of hot water for our gang!

  We loved this house so much, we already booked it again for next year. With that being said, there were just a couple of things about the house itself that we hope can be improved. The deck gave us lots of splinters in our hands and feet whenever we touched it. There were no oven mitts to take things out of the oven or scissors in the kitchen. We like to cook sometimes, and we made it work with what we had. Overall, this is an excellent location, a beautiful beach view, and a well maintained house. The beds were very comfortable and the A/C kept us nice and cool the whole time. We absolutely recommend this property!

  Love the location, quiet, easy beach access, pet friendly which was great! House was big and opened!! Wrap around deck!! Property was easily located according to the directions, very clean, decking needed some repair as did the kitchen floor in front of the dishwasher, we had a little bit of trouble with furnace and electrical but they came out and fixed it. Customer Service was great, when we called them they took care of it. I would recommend this house to friends. Gulf Shores had a lot of places to eat, shop and things to do!!!
